Introduced in 1979, Promalin has become a widely
adopted plant growth regulator that significantly
improves the fruit quality and market acceptance
of apples. Promalin increases fruit size in all
varieties, thus improving fruit yields and the percentage
of fruit that can be sent to the fresh market. In
the Red Delicious apples, Promalin stretches the
shape of the fruit and expands the calyx lobes (five
points), giving the fruit the very attractive and
sought after "Typey" appearance. In addition, Promalin
also makes the skin of the fruit very smooth, achieving
that perfect, attractive fruit "finish" that's so
appealing on the grocery store shelf. Additionally,
Promalin promotes the development of lateral branches
in young trees, a very important benefit to obtain
a fuller canopy sooner, increase fruit-bearing surface
and get trees into production faster. Finally, Promalin
is used in many countries to increase fruit set
in several pear varieties.
