VectoLex, VectoBac and Bactimos – How They Work
VectoLex, VectoBac and Bactimos kill mosquitoes in the larval stage of their life cycle. Either scattered across or sprayed upon the surface of aquatic breeding areas, the larvicide becomes a part of the food eaten by the larvae.
The larvae ingest the insecticide, consisting of Bti or Bsph spores and crystalline toxins produced by the bacteria. Only when activated by the larva's specific gut pH and enzymes do the crystals become toxic. Larvae stop feeding and die before they can pupate and reach adulthood.
VectoLex, VectoBac and Bactimos are applied to mosquito breeding areas by helicopter and airplanes, or can be distributed by hand-operated equipment.
The above products are available in many formulations such as granules, pellets, liquid, or technical powder, each of which is useful in different environmental conditions. Liquids are used for open water sites, while granules or pellets are able to penetrate the thick vegetation that covers some mosquito breeding areas.
Extremely effective, VectoLex, VectoBac and Bactimos kill 95-100% of the larvae, depending on the mosquito species, when applied at recommended rates.
