Biorational Research Center

The Biorational Research Center (VBC), which opened in Libertyville, Illinois, in 2018, serves as the global hub for all Valent BioSciences (VBC) product research and development activities. It promotes collaboration and innovation by uniting the various functional areas of VBC’s scientific team under one roof.

This industry-leading group of plant, soil, and formulation scientists, microbiologists, entomologists, and chemists develops best-in-class solutions to agriculture, public health, and forest health professionals around the world.

The more than 90,000 sq.-ft.-facility includes 65,000 sq. ft. of open-concept lab and office space, combined with a nearly 20,000-sq.-ft. greenhouse. Functional areas within the research center are devoted to greenhouse research, plant biology, entomology, plant pathology, chemistry, fermentation, and formulation/downstream processing.

VBC and its parent company, Sumitomo Chemical Company (SCC), are committed to helping stakeholders innovate with high-tech plant health, public health, and forest health solutions that foster a more sustainable relationship with their fields, the planet, and their customers.
