NPDES

As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program has regulated point sources that discharge any pollutants into the waters in the U.S. since 1972. Application of any pesticide to surface water falls under NPDES jurisdiction, so mosquito abatement districts must be aware of requirements. In most cases, permitting is administered at the state level.
